SBI Phase I PI Meeting
The goal of the open 2001 Western Arctic Shelf-Basin Interactions (SBI) Phase I Principal Investigators (PI) meeting was to update the SBI community on:
1) the SBI Phase I results to date,
2) the status of the overall SBI project, and
3) the upcoming SBI Phase II field project.
With respect to Phase II, the PIs should be discussing "What have we learned from SBI Phase I that will guide SBI Phase II?"

        Shelf-Basin Interactions Pan-Arctic Meeting

        The goal of the Second Biennial Shelf-Basin Interactions International Pan-Arctic meeting entitled "Shelf-Basin Studies and Global Change" is to encourage open discussion of Arctic science in a forum that will foster an international network of active people interested in the SBI goal "to provide a clear understanding of the physical and biogeochemical connections between the Arctic shelves, slopes, and deep basin. That understanding will in turn allow realistic assessment both of the potential responses of the Arctic system to global change, and of the role of these interactive processes on the global system".

The SBI workshop agenda is centered on three sub-themes:
1) pan Arctic assessment and current research themes;
2) understanding the present and predicting the future; and
3) coordination of international studies in a pan Arctic framework.

The product of this meeting will be:
1) an improved understanding of on-going and planned SBI projects throughout the Arctic;
2) development of a list of common themes relevant to pan-Arctic SBI studies, and
3) a network of national and international scientists working synergistically on SBI objectives.
