For the July cruise
all cargo, mail etc shipped to Nome for loading onto the
Healy should be
addressed:
SBI PROJECT,
c/o PI's name (in care of the ship: c/o USCGC
Healy and name of recipient)
Nome, Alaska 99762
All addresses should start with "SBI Project".
It will hopefully simplify filing and locating in
Nome.
Cargo should be
at Nome by July 12 to give Andy Heiberg time to locate
(trace) and stage for
loading onto the Healy on July 15.
Please provide the project office with
information on all shipments to Nome.
As earlier advised there are three
air operators offering cargo service to
Nome. They can be found on the
web:
Lynden Air Cargo
Northern Air Cargo
Alaska Airlines
For "last minute" shipments there seem to be two options,
-Fed
Ex: This is pretty much overnight to Anchorage, but slower from
Anchorage to
Nome. For information call: 1-800- 463-3339 and hit extension
star (
*).
-Gold Streak: This is by Alaska Airline and is definitely the fastest
if the
sender is at or close to a location served by Alaska Airline. The
snafu here
is that the sender, if located outside Alaska, has to be a "known
shipper",
i.e. Joe Doe will not be able to Gold Streak from Seattle say.
Therefore
seek out a recognized company or institution to be the sender. For
