---------------------

The Western Arctic Shelf-Basin Interactions (SBI) project office will

hold an open, informal discussion session at AGU in San Francisco, CA

on developing plans for SBI Phase III. The central goal of SBI,

funded through the NSF Arctic System Science (ARCSS) Program and the

Office of Naval Research (ONR), is to improve our understanding of

the impacts of global change on the physical and biogeochemical

connections among the continental shelves, slopes, and deep basins of

the western Arctic. Within the Phase III synthesis and modeling

planning effort there is a need to evaluate and integrate the field

results collected as part of the current SBI Phase II with other

western Arctic studies and then expand these studies to a pan-Arctic

assessment of other shelves and basins.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005 from 5:00 p.m. -

6:00 p.m. at:

The Argent Hotel - Olympic Room

50 Third Street

San Francisco, CA 94103

The Argent Hotel is a long block from the Moscone Center West. View an

This meeting will be led by Rodger Harvey and Wieslaw Maslowski, both

members of the SBI Advisory Committee. This meeting will be the first

of three planned open discussion forums to be held over the next

three months for community input on the objectives and direction for

this final phase of SBI.
